When it comes
to developing new products, Industrial Inkjet Ltd, has always followed the
demands of customers looking to expand and push the boundaries of what their
business can achieve.
In 2009, IIJ launched the first of its innovative compact inkjet print modules, the ColourPrint 72 based on Konica Minolta’s compact and versatile inkjet printheads. This engine was capable of 72mm wide, 4 colour 360dpi printing at up to 27m/min, all within a footprint of less than 150mm. As the inkjet printhead technology has evolved and improved, IIJ’s range of print engines has expanded to over 55 models.
These can be
supplied with print swathes up to 562mm wide at 360dpi or 594mm wide at 600 dpi
and can achieve speeds from 65m/min to 300m/min depending on configuration. All
of this whilst maintaining IIJ’s design philosophy of compactness and
simplicity, allowing the highly reliable engines to be integrated into a huge
variety of applications such as labels and packaging, décor, track and trace,
ID documents and direct to product in industrial environments.
With the drive into packaging and décor markets the requirements are for even wider systems. So IIJ has responded with a new addition to its already impressive range of solutions. The latest system, a MonoPrint 775i, can print upto 160 m/min at 360 dpi or 80m/min at 720dpi, and has been produced for an industrial packaging application. The flexible design has been developed to be capable of print up to 4 colours at a maximum print width of 845mm wide when using the 360dpi KM1024i printheads or 891mm when using the 600dpi KM1800i heads. Making this product perfect for wider packaging applications such as carton, foil or flexible films as well as décor markets.

As always, IIJ
have made it as versatile as possible, so the design is also compatible with
the new 450 dpi, KM1280i printheads which would allow up to 849mm print width
at expected speeds of 135m/min at 450 dpi.
IIJ also prides
itself on having an extensive range of ink options available from a multitude
of global ink suppliers. These range from UV curable inks, including low
migration, covert security, low metamerism and highly flexible versions, to
pigmented waterbased inks for packaging and décor applications.
The first
system will be installed next month, and IIJ is already working on packaging projects
that require four colour printing above 800mm wide. At Drupa in June, IIJ will
be present on the Konica Minolta Business solutions booth, showcasing their new
wide design print engines for a variety of applications.
After that?
Well IIJ has plans to use the same scalable architecture to go even wider.
