Reporting to: Director of Engineering
IIJ designs and builds inkjet printing systems for customers worldwide. Our business has grown quickly over the last 2 years, and our systems are used in and markets and applications that vary widely. This in turn has resulted in the need for development work specific to each system. Much of this work lies in customisation of the standard software, or interfacing the print engine to other equipment.
The Applications Software Engineer will be expected to take responsibility for customisation and interfacing aspects of projects.
Work will include:-
Discussions with customers concerning requirements
Discussions with 3rd party equipment and software suppliers
Definition of project work
Creation of specs and plans
Creation of new software
Systems Configuration
Testing and installation
Customer Training
Customer support
The Applications Software Engineer will be an integral member of our Engineering team.
The post is adding new skills to this team and as such the Engineer will often be required to work as the team leader, explaining and organising the work to other staff.
Our business is literally world-wide. The post is likely to require a good deal of travel. This tends to be a large number of short trips (less than 1 week) but this may vary.
Requirements
The Applications Software Engineer must be:-
General
A self-starter. Able to take on responsibility. Able to see how to achieve goals and able to communicate this to other team members.
A good communicator. Able to explain technical issues to suppliers and customers around the world.
A good problem-solver. A logical approach to problem solving, but not afraid to ask for help.
Enthusiastic. Keen. A good team player as well as a leader.
Engineering Skills
Good, current development skills in C++ and Visual basic on windows platform
Understanding of software testing
An understanding of electronics at least the ability to understand interfacing requirements
Experience of taking software projects from concept to implementation
Some familiarity with CIJ or DOD inkjet printing would be an advantage but is not essential.
Language skills, particularly Mandarin, would be an advantage
IIJ is growing very fast and this role has great scope for future advancement.
